Frequently Asked Questions About Oticon Hearing Aids

What is the life expectancy of an Oticon hearing aid?

Most in-the-ear hearing aids last around five years, while behind-the-ear models can last five to six years. Lifespan depends on daily care and maintenance. Some patients upgrade sooner to benefit from the latest technology. An audiologist can help you decide when it is time for a new pair.

To sync your Oticon hearing aids with a smartphone, you must first put the devices into “pairing mode” by restarting them. You can do this by placing them in their charger for a few seconds and then removing them, or by turning them off and back on using the manual buttons.

Connecting to an iPhone

The iPhone uses a specific menu designed for hearing devices rather than the standard Bluetooth list.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on Accessibility.

  2. Select Hearing Devices to prompt your phone to search for nearby hearing aids.

  3. Restart your hearing aids right before this step to ensure they are discoverable.

  4. Tap your name or the device model once it appears on the screen to begin the link.

  5. Accept the pairing requests that pop up on your screen; you will need to tap “Pair” twice if you have a set for both ears.

Connecting to an Android Phone

The most reliable way to link an Android device is through the official manufacturer application.

  1. Download the Oticon Companion app from the Google Play Store.

  2. Turn on Bluetooth in your phone’s settings menu.

  3. Open the Oticon Companion app and choose the “Pair” or “Connect” option from the main screen.

  4. Restart your hearing aids to make them visible to the app’s search tool.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the connection, which will enable both remote control and audio streaming.
